What actually decides the price of your driveway
Every concreter in Adelaide answers this with "free quote". Here is the real answer, so you know what you are being quoted on before anyone turns up.
Area
Square metres is the biggest single factor. A single-car strip and a double driveway with a turning area are very different jobs.
Finish
Plain grey is the base. Coloured, stamped and exposed aggregate each add cost, in that order, because of materials and the labour in the finish.
Preparation
A flat, clear block needs far less than a sloping site, poor ground, or an old driveway that has to come out and go to the tip.
Access
If a truck can get close, the pour is quick. Tight access, a fence line or a rear yard means pumping — which we own, so it costs less than hiring one in.
We measure it on site and give you a fixed written price covering all four before any work starts. If something genuinely changes underground, you hear about it before we proceed, not on the invoice.

What does a concrete driveway cost in Adelaide?

How long does it take?
Two to three days on site for most residential driveways: excavation and base, then formwork and steel, then the pour and finish.
Weather moves those dates. We would rather delay a pour than place concrete in conditions that will spoil the finish.
When can I drive on it?
Walk on it after 24 to 48 hours. Put a car on it after about seven days. Keep heavy vehicles, trailers and skip bins off for 28 days, which is when concrete reaches full design strength.
We give you the actual dates for your pour before we leave site.
Do you take the old driveway away?
Yes. Break-out, removal and disposal are quoted as part of the job, along with the excavation and base underneath. One crew, one price — you are not chasing a separate demolition mob.
Do I need council approval?
The crossover between the kerb and your boundary sits on council land, so that section usually needs approval. The concrete inside your boundary generally does not. We will tell you which applies to your job when we quote it.
Will it crack?
All concrete moves. The job of a concreter is to decide where it cracks, which is what control joints are for — the saw cuts you see in a finished driveway. Correct base preparation, the right thickness and reinforcement for the load, and joints cut at the right spacing and the right time are what keep movement in the joints instead of across the middle of your driveway.
That is most of what you are actually paying for, and it is the part you cannot see once it is finished.
